Sweatshops
I have recently learned a lot about free trade, sweatshops, and how globalization affects the world we live in. Whether you like it or not, sweatshops are huge components to free trade which plays a significant role in globalization. Based on the information I have collected, I cannot and will not change my consumer habits. There is really nothing in my power that I can do to "fix" the labor practice of sweatshops. Answer this question for me bloggers: what would I be able to do? Let your opinions loose!

That's very interesting. from what I understood, you are pro-globalization, that's why you support parts or the entire idea of sweatshops.
ReplyDeleteBy changing consumer habbits the sweatshop will change for better. The more votes the better the chances in helping these people work better.
ReplyDeletethere are organizations people can jaoin. for instance, SWEATFREE
ReplyDeletewell im not exactly all for how the workers are treated, but the sweatshops offer a lot of employment opportunities for people even though the pay is meager. They can still save a little bit over time to support themselves and their families as much as they can.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Lauren, Sweatshops create opportunities for people in developing countries to have jobs and get paid.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't think that if I stopped buying their products Free Trade will stop. Many others will buy their stuff. If not in the US, outside.
exactly. how can a few people cut back by a few dollars in spending to stop free trade when there are billions of other people in the world that are buying the same products and for cheap prices?
ReplyDeleteHi Lauren, I agree with you there is not much that we individuals can do to change the practice of sweatshop. I think the most effective way to change the practice of sweatshop is by lawsuit against the sweatshops and big corporation. Because that can catch attention from all over the world and bring pressure to the sweatshop and corporation to improve the laborers' life.
ReplyDeleteI deifnatley agree with you! Its hard to change our consumer habits, because we have gotten so used to them! But we surely need to find other alternatives to better the ways of sweatshops/ and free trade and all the stuff!
